Patient Info
Surgery: Getting Insurance ApprovalOnce you have been evaluated by one of our surgeons, and if
surgery is recommended, we will discuss the medical necessity review process.
Our Bariatric team will assemble all of your information, and forward to your
insurance company for review. The review process varies between insurance
companies, but generally takes between 2 – 4 weeks. Once a determination has
been made by your insurance company, they will notify both you and our office
by a mailed letter. Upon receipt of the letter of approval (or denial) we will contact
you to discuss the results.
What insurance plans do you accept?
Shelby Baptist Medical Center and Cahaba Valley Surgical Group accept a wide array of insurance plans.
Some of these include:
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans
- Tricare
- United Healthcare
- Viva Health
Some plans require a referral from the primary care physician. Some plans have specific hospital panels within which the patient must receive services. Call your insurance company to inquire.
We do not accept the following insurance plans for our
Bariatric Program:
- Traditional Medicare
- Medicare Advantage and Fee For Service Plans
- Aetna
- Cigna
- Medicaid (all state programs)
- Non-participating PPO plans
Setting the Date:
If you have been approved for a bariatric procedure (as per above) we will talk
with you about potential dates for your surgery. With an approval, we can
usually schedule the surgery within 2 – 4 weeks from our receipt of the
notification of approval from the insurance company.
